Using Detective Colombo's technique to plant a seed of faith
He often irritates people, but he never gets mad. If you get the other person mad, you lose
He often starts with an absent-minded, open-ended question: "Say, what's going on here anyway?"
His next question involves his famous stop in the doorway as he is about to leave, returning to the victim and saying, "One more thing." Then he asks a straightforward question: How did you arrive at this conclusion?
Example: At a family outing, one of the young Students says You know, I realize all religions are the same. Everyone just preaches love.
Colombo: Do you feel this way about all religions or just one or two?
Student: I feel this way about all religions - So we shouldn't push our views on other people.
Colombo: Have you surveyed all religions to reach this conclusion? And one more thing: isn't saying that all religions preach love pushing your view on people? I'd love to talk with you about this sometime over coffee.
